Peri-Implant Tissue Health
Maintenance of healthy peri-implant soft tissue as well as supporting peri-implant bone is an essential part of long-term success of implant therapy. An accurate maintenance protocol of peri-implant tissue health may prevent biological complications such as peri-implantitis. After the delivery of the prosthesis, patients should be followed up and clinical and radiological examinations should be performed on a regular basis to detect any etiological factors that may lead to such complications. This topic discusses properties of healthy and pathological conditions of peri-implant tissue, clinical and radiological examination methods of peri-implant tissue, as well as protocols for maintaining peri-implant tissue health.
On completion of this topic you should be able to...
- indicate anatomical and pathological characteristics of peri-implant soft tissue and supporting bone
- describe etiological factors for compromised peri-implant tissue health
- explain clinical and radiological examination methods to evaluate peri-implant tissue health
- define accurate and up to-date protocols for maintaining peri-implant tissue health
