The Prosthetically Guided Regeneration (PGR) Approach as a Key to Manage Complex Cases in Implant Dentistry: New Techniques for Bone Augmentation in Critical Defects

This lecture describes the concept of the Prosthetically Guided Regeneration (PGR) approach to manage complex cases in implant dentistry. This is the second of two parts of the case presentations by M. Chiapasco and P. Casentini, and it highlights the PGR approach in managing more complex ridge defects, classified as Class 3 and 4 (find the first part here). Combined hard and soft tissue augmentation procedures are explained based on the amount of tissue loss. The procedures are illustrated in detail with high-quality images and videos to demonstrate PGR by augmenting the complex ridge defects with the help of various hard and soft tissue grafting techniques. Clinical guidelines are outlined in terms of advantages and disadvantages of various tissue augmentation techniques.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…

  • explain the pre-surgical planning procedures for prosthetically driven implant placement
  • describe hard and soft tissue augmentation procedures in managing class 3 and 4 ridge defects with the PGR approach
  • describe different types of bone grafting materials and procedures including block grafts harvested either from intraoral or extraoral sites to augment severe ridge defects
  • describe protocols for prosthetically guided regeneration in complex clinical situations with alternative use of hard and soft tissue augmentation and provisional restorations to achieve esthetic outcomes
