Structured Assessment and Treatment Planning

Esthetics: An Overview of Risk Factors

This lecture covers the risks associated with achieving predictable esthetic results when treating patients with missing teeth in the esthetic zone. It explains how to utilize the tools available to predictably understand, communicate, and address any limitations presented by the patient prior to initiation of treatment; the objective is to limit negative outcomes associated with these issues.

These tools - the SAC classification and Esthetic Risk Assessment - are not only used to predict the eventual treatment outcome, but also to evaluate the patient’s esthetic desires and to communicate them with the patient and the rest of the treatment team.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to...

  • define the standards for an esthetic fixed implant prosthesis
  • evaluate the patient’s esthetic desires/expectations
  • explain how to utilize the ERA and to evaluate its different risk levels when formulating a treatment plan
  • identify which patients carry a high risk of a negative esthetic outcome
