Online Course on Staged Ridge Augmentation (Mentored)

In cases of large bone defects staged augmentation is usually needed to achieve predictable treatment results. Numerous surgical techniques of staged augmentation are developed, including usage of particulate and block grafts of different origin. Selection of the most appropriate surgical technique and grafting material depends mostly on the anatomy of the defect which should be carefully evaluated prior the procedure. This course will provide information about types of bone defects, discuss the decision process to perform staged or simultaneous augmentation and will also describe selection of surgical technique, its principles, and complications. It combines e-learning content with peer-to-peer learning, mentored assignments and online sessions.

Why this course is right for you!

  • You want to feel confident moving into more advanced surgical procedures
  • An expert will answer all your questions during the program
  • Discuss cases peer-to-peer with other participants and a mentor online
  • Content by ITI’s top clinicians in the field of SRA

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course participants should

Be competent at

  • performing clinical and radiographic examination of patients with missing teeth and with defects in need for augmentation procedures.
  • describing the types of bone defects present in given clinical situation and discussing reasons for staged or simultaneous augmentation.
  • describing the surgical options for staged augmentation.
  • selecting the most appropriate grafting procedure for staged augmentation in given clinical situation.

Have knowledge of

  • biological principles of bone healing following augmentation procedures.
  • types of grafting materials and their biological and clinical characteristics.
  • surgical principles of most commonly used techniques of staged bone augmentation.

Be familiar with

  • complications of staged augmentation procedures and their management.

Required Background

This course is ideal for dentists or early year surgical specialty residents, who already have experience in implant placement and would like to enhance their surgical skills to perform more advanced procedures such as staged ridge augmentation.
