Hands on element focusing on sinus lift procedure
Course Highlights
Guided group discussion we will review the distinction between straightforward, advanced and complex implant dentistry
Review the use of digital dentistry in practice for communication and planning.
All-on-4 review from a dental nurse/coordinator perspective.
Including appointments, instruments, lab liaison, materials, staffing
Guided learning on bone augmentation procedures.
Techniques, materials, instruments, indications and contraindications
Lecture on sinus bone grafting to ensure understanding of the anatomy of the sinus, the necessity of CBCT, scanning in these cases, indications for treatment, the management of postoperative infection.
Hands on element will focus on the sinus lift procedure, to ensure better understanding of the instruments and skills involved in such treatments.
As part of a group we will discuss the dental nurses role in patient management, logistical support, clinical management required to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. What role do we play daily in achieving the best outcomes for the patients.
Aims & Objectives
To gain a basic knowledge of guided bone regeneration and sinus lift procedures
How to handle complications in implant dentistry, remedial treatment and how to discuss disappointments and bad news with patients.
To understand the importance of patient care and customer service in building an implant practice
To understand the process of informed patient consent and documentation
To understand the role of treatment coordinators in implant practices

Following qualification in Dentistry from the University of Glasgow in 2013, Michael undertook further postgraduate training in Oral Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Restorative Dentistry across the UK. He then achieved his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery MFDS RCPS (Glasg) qualification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
In 2017, Michael was awarded a place on the exceptionally competitive, 5-year Specialist Training Programme in Restorative Dentistry, based in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region. Patient groups treated included those requiring complex multidisciplinary care – those with Head and Neck Cancer, Hypodontia and Facial Trauma. This specialist training provided contemporary training in all monospecialties of Restorative Dentistry (Periodontics, Endodontics and Prosthodontics). Michael attained the prestigious qualifications of Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FDS(RestDent) and Membership in Periodontics (MPerio RCPSG)) in 2021.
Following completion of his comprehensive, contemporary and quality assured specialist training, Michael became a General Dental Council Registered Specialist in both Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry in September 2022.
Academically, Michael was awarded MSc(R) by the University of Glasgow for research into the outcomes of periodontal therapy. He has multiple publications in international peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, leading to international presentation of his work.
Michael is well respected within the profession, having been elected by his peers to the Dental Executive Council of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2018. He has a wealth of experience in the development of both national and international specialist clinical guidelines within the field of Periodontology.
Michael’s interests lie in predictable, evidence-based specialist treatment and particularly enjoys the provision of surgical periodontal therapy, dental implant supported rehabilitation and soft and hard tissue grafting.
Outside of dentistry, you’ll find Michael on the golf course, keeping fit at the gym or in the kitchen baking.
Gemma Sheridan

Gemma began her journey as a dental nurse 7 years ago and has worked in both NHS and private dental practices. She is currently practicing at the Dental Implant Clinic, in Bath, alongside Amy. Throughout her career, she has broadened her knowledge by gaining her Dental Radiography for DCPs and implant nursing qualifications and is currently studying dental sedation nursing. After assisting with numerous dental procedures, it became clear to her that she was determined to work within a primarily surgical environment. Gemma is excited to be part of the ITI Dental Nurses Committee and to work alongside a talented team of dental nurses. She is keen to share her knowledge and passion and is looking forward to meeting other like-minded professionals within the dental industry
