Esthetic Planning for Implant-Supported Fixed Dental Prostheses
The esthetic aspects of implant prostheses have gained increasing attention and importance in recent years. There are a number of factors that determine if implant prostheses are considered esthetically successful by both the patient and the clinician.
There are also recognized criteria aimed at objectively judging the esthetic outcome of an implant-supported reconstruction. These can serve as useful benchmarks during the planning phase.
In the example of a suboptimal outcome, the implant-supported prostheses replacing the upper left central and lateral incisors are clearly distinguishable from their right-side counterparts.
On the other hand, in this example of an optimal outcome the right central incisor implant crown and soft tissue emergence closely mimic the natural left central incisor.
With the aim of achieving optimal esthetics, this Learning Module will outline and discuss the determining factors related to esthetic planning for fixed dental prostheses or FDPs.
