Congress Lecture
Surgical Planning and Procedures
The Precision of Guided Surgery
This lecture discusses the precision of guided implant placement surgery, based on a systematic literature review conducted by the 5th ITI Consensus Conference. The different available techniques are presented, including the characteristics of each and the degree of precision in implant placement obtained.
Variables that can influence the precision of guided surgery implant placement are explored: method of drill guide support, flapless vs. open-flap approach, and fully vs. partially guided technique. Moreover, future trends are discussed, including the movement towards a complete digital workflow that incorporates CT imaging, intraoral scanners, and CAD/CAM systems.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- classify different guided surgery techniques
- identify the variables that influence precision in guided surgery
- define the most precise guided surgery technique
- list possible indications for guided surgery
