The Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan in Implant Dentistry ‒ What the Prosthodontist Needs to Know from the Surgeon

Part two of a two-part presentation gives a comprehensive overview of how to treat complex cases using an interdisciplinary approach in implant dentistry. From the surgeon’s point of view, the focus is on mucogingival surgery to optimize soft tissue thickness, increase the amount of keratinized tissue, and combine implant placement with recession coverage in the same surgical procedure. This lecture includes a series of ‘Surgical Rules’ and perioplastic surgical principles to improve outcomes. The presentation concludes with a summary of all points of consideration for complex interdisciplinary cases.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…

  • discuss the need for an interdisciplinary approach in implant dentistry
  • describe the workflow of careful prosthetic planning, surgical templates during implant placement, provisional prosthesis with soft tissue conditioning, and final rehabilitation
  • describe the basic principles of mucogingival surgery to improve soft tissue thickness, increase the amount of keratinized tissue, and combine implant placement with recession coverage
