Surgical Planning to Prevent Biological Complications
This lecture underlines the importance of using well-documented implant systems and regenerative materials and also stresses that the whole dentition should be taken into consideration when planning placement of dental implants. Key topics include: the number of implants needed to replace missing teeth; indications for treating existing periodontal pockets prior to or simultaneous with implant placement; the amount and quality of existing keratinized mucosa and alveolar bone; and the ideal vertical position of the implant.
Numerous well-documented clinical cases support all information presented. The lecture concludes with clear recommendations for avoiding future complications.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- recognize the importance of evaluating the periodontal status of the entire dentition prior to planning placement of dental implants
- identify the presence or absence of keratinized mucosa at planned implant sites
- define the ideal vertical implant position to avoid both an exposed implant fixture and deep peri-implant pockets
