Surgical Perspectives on the Use of Implants in Maxillofacial Reconstruction
This presentation gives an overview of the use of osseointegrated implants in the reconstruction of craniofacial and large maxillofacial defects resulting in improved esthetics and function. Case examples show the treatment of orbital, midfacial, nasal, and auricular defects as well as reconstruction of significant defects secondary to surgical resection. Implant survival data are given for each defect category; the negative impact of radiation on survival rates is also discussed.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- explain the role of intraoral and extraoral implants in reconstructing maxillofacial defects
- discuss implant survival rates in maxillofacial reconstructions
- discuss the impact of radiation on implant survival
