Success Criteria in Implant Prosthodontics

Success criteria for dental implant treatments are often reported in the literature in terms of success at the implant level only. When additional parameters are applied, the percentage of successful cases decreases. This lecture describes the importance of considering peri-implant soft tissue and implant prostheses as well as the prosthodontic assessment and patient’s satisfaction in the success of a dental implant treatment. Long-term outcomes should consider the implant-prosthodontic complex as a whole. Finally, this lecture shares a practical way to measure esthetic outcomes that incorporates multiple factors. Each success parameter is discussed in explicit detail.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…

  • define the necessary parameters for success criteria of dental implant treatment
  • understand the importance of implant position to treatment success
  • understand the importance of peri-implant tissue dimensions to treatment success
  • understand the importance of the patient’s satisfaction to treatment success
