Congress Lecture
Prosthodontic Planning and Procedures
Prosthetic Planning and Design to Prevent Biological Complications
Prosthetic biologic complications around dental implants are not unusual. This lecture deals with the prevention of complications and presents a strategy to manage complications should they occur. Emphasis is placed on the importance of meticulous treatment planning, which should be prosthetically driven to ensure the correct 3D positioning of the implant. The choice of implant - appropriate surface, shape, size, and connection type - is also stressed.
A variety of case studies show how these decisions, together with meticulous management of the prosthetic phase and attention to detail, influence the performance of the prosthesis and development of complications. The lecture concludes with a discussion of prosthesis maintenance and patient management as critical parts of the treatment and potential contributors to the development of biologic complications.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- list the categories of dental implant complications
- identify a successful dental implant restoration
- define the steps to successful dental implant restoration to avoid complications
- discuss dental implant prosthesis maintenance
