Prevention and Management of Bone and Soft Tissue Defects in the Esthetic Zone

This lecture addresses the clinical challenges of soft and hard tissue defects in the esthetic zone. Dr. Al-Nawas introduces the decision-making process for management of the extraction socket; the advantages and limitations of different biomaterials for ridge preservation; and selection of timing for implant placement and loading based on current literature and recommendations from the 2018 ITI Consensus Conference. Emphases are placed on several important factors: presence of infection, damaged alveolus, soft tissue phenotype, implant position and angulation, implant primary stability, patient expectations, and more. Typical mistakes and complications with immediate implants are also discussed.
