Peri-implantitis: Diagnosis and Treatment Modalities
This presentation begins with a discussion of strategic extraction: whether teeth should be extracted as a first choice or kept as long as they function. An overview of estimated numbers of placed and failed implants internationally is given, and differences between the treatment strategies of prosthodontists, periodontists, general practitioners, and surgeons are presented. The definition, prevalence, and risk factors of peri-implantitis and related problems are emphasized. Assessment and diagnosis of peri-implantitis, the importance of radiographic assessment, and evaluation of progressive bone loss are described. The main part of the presentation concentrates on viable treatment options such as antibacterial therapy and ultrasonic debridement, highlighting that prevention is the best treatment.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- explain the diagnosis of peri-implantitis
