Osseous Considerations in Implant-based Maxillofacial Reconstruction

In patients with reconstructed jaws, implant-supported overdentures improve quality of life and mastication. Along with soft tissue and prosthetic considerations, the quality, quantity and position of the bone are key factors for successful rehabilitation. This lecture describes how planning and execution of treatment with the end in mind can predictably restore form and function. Two well documented cases are shown as examples of this so-called denture-based planning.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…

  • describe the factors for success in patients with reconstructed jaws
  • explain how quality, quantity and position of the bone contribute to successful reconstruction
  • describe denture-based planning for reconstruction patients
