Congress Lecture
Treatment Outcomes and Continuing Care
Management of Esthetic Implant Complications
In this lecture risk factors for implant failure are reviewed with an emphasis on the importance of recognizing these factors prior to treatment by means of risk assessment tools such as the SAC. With aid of numerous clinical cases the speaker explains his interdisciplinary approach to managing implant complications. Clinical cases include an esthetic failure due to a compromised 3D implant position; lack of keratinized gingiva requiring a free gingival graft; and the treatment of titanium-tattooed gingiva. The lecture concludes with discussion of peri-implantitis caused by cement excess. The lecturer demonstrates the advantages and indications for the use of the Perioscope device for the examination and visualization of cement excess. Recommendations for a post-cementation protocol for routine use are shared.
At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…
- understand and recognize the reasons for esthetic implant failures
- explain soft tissue surgical procedures that may be applied to improve lack of keratinized mucosa
- recognize the peri-implant problems that may be caused by cement excess, and explain therapeutic options to solve this issue
