Digital Tools in Implant Dentistry, from 3D Planning to Guided Surgery and CAM, How Much „Digital“ Do We Need?
The aim of this lecture is to introduce the clinician to the stages of the digital workflow in implant dentistry, from treatment planning and intraoral scanning to the restorative phase. The superimposing of DICOM and STL files, and more recently XML files, together in a computer software programs allows for precise planning of the implant treatment and production of the surgical stent. Various clinical cases are discussed to illustrate the workflow for digital implant prosthodontics. This lecture concludes with the merits of digital technology in implant dentistry, demonstrating the reduction in clinical chair time in select cases.
