Surgical Planning and Procedures

Digital Surgical Planning

Digital applications entered modern dentistry more than two decades ago. Cone beam CT, intraoral scanners, facial scanners, digital articulators, and motion capture technology are now familiar sights in dental offices. They represent a tremendous breakthrough in planning the treatment process for implant patients. Digital surgical planning that considers not only anatomical situations and limitations but also the prosthetic needs of patients is essential when treating complex cases. This lecture evaluates and explains the available tools in terms of their reliability, limitations, and possible improvements.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…

  • describe the different modalities in computerized digital planning
  • recognize the limitations of digital surgical planning
  • discuss ongoing and future developments in digital planning
