Case Presentation: Extra-Oral Implants Rescue a Failed Nasal Prosthesis

The factors highlighted in this case presentation illustrating the use of extra-oral implants in a burns survivor missing alar and the tip of the nose include:

  • the importance of a comprehensive history-taking
  • how patient factors will determine the treatment option most suitable for their situation
  • the adhesively retained prostheses and implant-supported prostheses constitute a continuum of care
  • implant planning using 3-dimensional radiographic views
  • the choice of appropriate implants with regard to biomechanical principles, the reduction of unnecessary soft tissue scrification, and an aesthetically acceptable outcome with patient acceptance.
