Bone Augmentation in Implantology ‒ Current Concepts and New Ideas: Q&A

This is a recording of the Q&A session of Jochen Tunkel's Webinar "Bone Augmentation in Implantology ‒ Current Concepts and New Ideas" on ITI Academy live.

Current developments in implantology in recent years has significantly changed the requirements and wishes of patients concerning the implant treatment. Implants no longer simply have to be osseointegrated, but instead have to be inserted in the ideal position according to a prosthetic treatment concept. As a result, most of the implant treatments require some kind of bone augmentation. The implantologist has a wide range of options and materials to choose from. It is important to use these various methods correctly and to reduce morbidity for the patient. Sinus floor elevation, guided tissue regeneration, autologous or allogeneic bone transplantation - what are the indications? Is autologous bone irreplaceable as the gold standard or do we now have equivalent methods available? This webinar gives an insight in the basic principles of bone augmentation and current concept improvements in a field that is still developing.

At the end of this lecture you should be able to...

  • discuss advances in bone augmentation methods and materials
  • understand the role of guided bone regeneration (GBR) in modern implantology
  • understand the decision-making process for selecting GBR or shells/blocks
